Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has had an extraordinary 2014 after being nominated for the FIFA world Player of the Year award for his excellent performances during the calendar year.
He did not only lift the German Bundesliga title but also the World Cup with the German national team. However, the former Schalke goalkeeper has proved that he is also a human after committing a rare error in the recent league match against Borussia Monchengladbach. The impressive home record of Bayern Munich at the Allianz arena went in a flash after the club suffered a 2-0 defeat.
The defeat started with a bad mistake fromNeuer to allowMonchengladbach to open the scoring through Raffael in the 30th minute. Neuer did not have a save to make in the match until then and this probably explains a little as to why he was caught cold in the wrong position trying to save a weak shot from Raffael. As the ball bundled in, Neuer was aware that he had made a grave mistake. The 29-year-old also did not help his cause with a week save in the second half and it allowed Raffael to extend his goal scoring touch in the match. Bayern will be hoping to win their next match against archrivals Borussia Dortmund.
“Believe me, I could have done without it. Obviously, you’re only human if you make a mistake, but something like that still annoys me.Maybe I do look stupid at times if I lose the ball, but I make up for it with a lot of saves. I wouldn’t be the goalkeeper I am now if that didn’t happen to me from time to time,” said Neuer. Before the away match against Dortmund, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper will be joining up with the national team for two international matches.
