The DC United was placed at the bottom of Eastern Conference when the record scorer of Manchester United, Wayne Rooney from Everton joined in June. However, the on and off pitch impact in Washington is quite massive. Rooney was named as the captain of DC soon after 3 games and since then has successfully made the team incorporate his assists, goals and work ethics. His leadership qualities are what makes his team gear up for the matches and show their best performances. Also, he has shown hope for DC United and his goals and plays is what make him the best captain.
Rooney has shown a great draw within just 4 months in the MLS. Josef Martinez, the Venezuela striker has led the United’s run of Atlanta this year as they completed 2nd in Eastern Conference. The league record of Martinez was broken for the majority of goals in Augusts’ season and completed with 31 goals in close to 35 games to achieve the MLS Golden Boot.
Martinez was signed initially on loan in 2017 from Torino prior to making a permanent move from Serie A. Martinez has no regrets to what took place and said that it was a good learning experience. The 25-year-old wants to be there as he feels people show the love which cannot be bought from any club. Although he did not know anything in depth initially about the league, but he feels it’s the right choice he made.
